TANKERSLEY Parish Council is finally to get its speed indicator device back in action.

The sign, which was bought at a cost of more than £3,000, flashes up the speed of approaching vehicles and is intended as a deterrent to speeding.

It has been used at several locations in the area, but has been out of action in Lidgett Lane - currently closed to traffic - for months following a threat of legal action from Barnsley Council, which was unhappy with the way it was being operated.

No clarification was provided by Barnsley Council when parish councillors queried the complaint, so it is now to be moved to a location on Chapel Road.

A farmer has offered the use of a cherry picker to help with the task, which has been made more awkward by the installation of a solar panel to keep the SID’s battery charged from sunlight.
