RISING sports star Alex Oldale has secured heavyweight backing in his bid to raise the cash needed to compete in this year’s Junior Olympics - MP Michael Dugher.
Kirk Balk Academy pupil Alex, 12, has been selected for the Great Britain squad for the Inline Hockey event at the Los Angeles games in July.
But he still has a challenge as tough as the games themselves - to raise the £4,000 it will cost to get to the west coast of America and stay there for the games.
Alex, of Barnsley Road, Hoyland, is a net minder who plays with the Norton Cyclones and, along with his parents, has been working to raise the cash for months.
