Experienced boxing coach Trevor Schofield starts the new year with a new role to get stuck into.
Trevor, 70, who runs the Barnsley Star club on Doncaster Road, Barnsley, has been appointed on to the Executive Committee of the Yorkshire ABA, the regional branch of the amateur sport's governing body.
He will have a hand in some decision making regionally and is happy to help out.
He said: "I first applied a long time ago but I had my professional trainer's licence at the time and I think that held me back.
"I have been to a few meetings already and I love it.
"It also helps you to keep up to date with everything that is going on.
"Yorkshire is obviously a big area so there is a lot of work and people would be surprised what actually goes into it.
"The people involved are nearly all volunteers and it's all about helping all the clubs in the region."
Trevor's club has been open over the Christmas period and he is close to opening a weights room within the gym, located behind Select Bathrooms.
Star came agonisingly close to training their first national champion last year with Carlton teenager John Smith beaten in a final. Trevor is hopeful of breaking their duck in the new year.
He added: "John is a good lad and he has improved a lot in the last year.
"We also have Liam Richardson back in training and he is an exciting prospect."
Hand injuries to former Yorkshire belt holder Callum Simpson and Red Johnson have also been overcome and the pair should be returning to action soon.
"Callum's got a job in Bradford so is splitting his time training with us and a gym there," added Trevor.
"Red has had an operation and he should be back soon.
