New uncle Luke Steele says there is no Championship club he would want to play for other than Barnsley.

Steele's brother became a father on Friday night and the Reds skipper went to his see new niece after the survival heroics at Huddersfield where he kept the ball for two minutes to see out the draw.

Steele said: "Little April has joined the family and my dad was unable to be at the Huddersfield game because he was with his first grandchild. It's the first game he's missed all season. I'm excited about being an uncle and I need to sharpen up my baby skills.

"No doubt people will joke about me dropping the baby but I'm pretty good with my hands.  I'd like to have children myself one day but right now I'm focusing on my football career."

Steele was told by Reds boss David Flitcroft that he would be offered a new deal on Wednesday. Talks are expected to begin next week and Steele says he is happy at Oakwell. He told the Chronicle: "There is no other club in the Championship that could make me happier than Barnsley, although I've always said that if an opportunity comes along that is too good to turn down then I'd have to think about it.

"I'll have to talk to Don Rowing and the owner but I'd like it sorted sooner rather than later.  The club will now know the budget for next season and talks will begin soon. The Huddersfield game only cemented my love for the club though.

"I'm proud to be Barnsley captain and I would love to be a part of what Flicker is building. "But let's see what happens in the next few weeks."
