Daniel Stendel admits Barnsley’s away form is ‘disappointing’.

While they have the sixth best away record in the division compared to the seventh best at home, where they are unbeaten in 13 league games across nine months, all five of the Reds’ league losses this season have come on their travels.

They have lost four out of five away in the league as they were beaten at both Charlton Athletic and Shrewsbury Town then won at Accrington Stanley before losing 4-2 at Sunderland and 1-0 at Wycombe Wanderers.

Head coach Stendel said: “We can play better away. We have had a lot of away games in which we have played very well. But, at the moment, I am disappointed with our performances in away games. We did well at Southend (a 4-2 FA Cup win) but it was not in the league.

“At Sunderland we played for 70 minutes very well but we lost. We need to be more consistent in the whole game away from home to get the results that we are getting at home.”

Some Barnsley fans who made the 400-mile round trip to Wycombe expressed frustration at the final whistle. Stendel said: “I can understand that 200 per cent. Their mood is very similar to my mood. It is not just that we didn’t play at our best but also that we didn’t have the impression that the players can change the result. That is what is so disappointing.”
