Daniel Stendel was delighted with his side’s mentality after they won 3-0 with ten men at Southend United.

Jacob Brown was sent off after 34 minutes then the visitors scored after the break through Cameron McGeehan, Cauley Woodrow and Jordan Green.

Stendel said: “It was a very good performance, especially in the second half. The mentality from every player was very good. We spoke at half-time that we needed to work much more together and player with heart. The players showed that and it’s a really good result.

“The kick for our team was the red card. We had better chances after that. It was a test of our mentality and we passed it. It was a big moment to go in front at 1-0 early in the second half, then you can run easier and play easier.”

Brown was dismissed for sliding in on Sam Mantom. Stendel said: “I can only say from my position and I was very surprised that he got the red card. I have not seen it again but I hope that we can appeal it.

“Jacob gives everything from the club and the team in every game. He was very sad to be sent off. When he plays he always gives everything and always tries to play fair.”

Green, who got the last goal, said: “I just came on to give it my all, use my strengths and it has paid off. It was probably the easiest goal I’ve ever scored. I just had to get forward and try to get in good positions. It was good to score in front of the fans who have been really good with me.

“We are buzzing to come back to win with ten men. We have to stick together in tough times and that’s all the boys were focused on after the red card. I was on the bench and saying ’it doesn’t even look like we have gone down to ten men.”
