FIXED-PENALTY notices handed out to fly-tippers will increase from £300 to £400.

It’s the latest step in Barnsley Council’s clampdown on those dumping in the borough and raises the fine to the national maximum, acting as a strong deterrent to those responsible.

“This is great development to continue cracking down on those who choose to blight our beautiful borough with illegal waste,” a spokesman said.

“Fixed-penalty notices are just one of the tools we use to deal with fly-tipping offences. Our enforcement team have had some fantastic results securing prosecutions against people who illegally deposit waste.

“The increased fine and a new issuing power is another step in the right direction.”
