Thurlstone man John Stones has been named in England's squad for the World Cup along with fellow former Barnsley players Kieran Trippier and Jack Butland.

Defender Stones, 23, played 28 games for his hometown club after coming through the Oakwell academy before moving on to Everton and then Premier League champions Manchester City.

Goalkeeper Butland made 13 appearances for the Reds on loan from Stoke City in 2013 while right-back Trippier played 44 games on loan from Manchester City in 2010 and 2011.
