IT was all hands to the pumps after Tuesday night’s storm left a Barnsley school flooded and badly damaged.

Paddy Wright, head teacher of Dodworth St John the Baptist Primary Academy, made an appeal via social media after discovering the school was flooded.

And within minutes of him posting his plea a small army of community minded people turned up at the school in Barnsley Road to lend a hand.

Mr Wright said: “I left the building at around 6.30pm and it wasn’t even raining.

“But when I reached home the heavens opened and the rain was torrential.

“The school has flooded in the past so I thought I’d better turn around and go back to check it.”
