SAMMY Williams says his 'life is changed' after living on the streets for a week.
The 28-year-old volunteer at the Barnsley Churches Drop-In Project, did a sponsored challenge to live rough to raise money and awareness for the centre.
Sammy, who lives off Midland Road, said the experience has humbled him.
He started his week living homeless last Monday in Barnsley, before moving on to spend nights in Sheffield, Wakefield, Doncaster and London.
He said: "It was a great experience, I met a lot of incredibly kind people who welcomed me with open arms.
"I slept in a tent on three nights, a bus station one night, and a park bench on another.
"The worst night's sleep I had was my first night in the tent. It chucked it down so I was wet through and freezing cold
"You won't catch me moaning about anything again.
"You don't realise how many things you take for granted until you don't have them any more, like having a roof over your head, a job, food, even having a shower. When I came home and got in the shower, and it was the first shower I'd had for a week, it felt amazing."
Sammy raised more than £1,300, smashing his original target of £1,000 to donate to the Barnsley Churches Drop-In Project.
