A STRONGMAN competition is hoping to pull in the crowds when in comes to Barnsley this year.

Dorothy Hyman sports stadium at Cudworth will provide the backdrop for Yorkshire’s version of the Highland Games meets traditional strongman events when it muscles into town in September.

It will bring record-breaking strongmen to compete in superhuman feats of strength and organiser Andy Picken, of Super Strong Man events, said the town was chosen as it is ‘about as Yorkshire as you can get’.

Competitors expected include Paul Smith who is Northern England’s strongest man 2016; Ryan Oldfield, Yorkshire Strongest Man for 2015 and 2016 and Ashton Reid, the current UK juniors strongest man.
