Gerhard Struber was left ‘very disappointed’ after his Barnsley side lost a lead in a 1-1 draw at home to Reading on Wednesday.
Cauley Woodrow put the hosts ahead after a defensive error by Michael Morrison then the visitors netted from a corner. The Reds are now seven points adrift of safety and four away from second-bottom Wigan Athletic.
Struber told the Chronicle: “I am very disappointed to only one have one point. We needed three. The performance, especially in the first half, was very good and we created a lot of chances and we were a little unlucky.
“In the second half, after we took the lead, it was a ping-pong game and no team had control of the game. The focus for the equaliser was not 100 per cent. But we learned from the last game (Saturday's 3-2 loss at Cardiff City) and, after the equaliser we had the mentality to win the game which was not our mentality in Cardiff. We had the mindset at the end that we must win, which is positive.”
Defender Bambo Diaby said: “The team gave everything to win and fought to the last minute but it is very disappointing to only get one point. It is very hard when you can touch the three points but, in one action, you lose them. We need to keep going because the Championship is very long.”
On the regular goals Barnsley are conceding from set pieces, Diaby added: “Everybody in the team knows it is a problem, the staff as well, and we are training to put this right. The goal was just unfortunate, everybody was focused. It touched one player then another player then finally the Reading player put it in. Every player did everything to stop this.”
