BARNSLEY head coach Gerhard Struber said his side have a ‘duty’ to the fans ahead of tonight’s home clash against Birmingham City.
The Reds, who have now spent 150 days in the Championship relegation zone, play their second game in four days after Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.
The visitors are looking to extend their unbeaten run to six games after Friday’s 3-1 win away at Bristol City, their third fixture in seven days.
Struber said: “Every statistic is telling me we have to win.
“I hope we have more luck, and are not so unlucky like the last game.
“We need points. It's a difficult situation when you look at the table, but the only thing we can do is perform.
“We need a top attitude, a good workflow together, and in the end we will see.”
Struber said Josh Windass' 16th-minute strike to put Wednesday ahead was 'very lucky', before Cauley Woodrow capitalised on a mistake from Owls 'keeper Cameron Dawson to equalise eight minutes later.
Barnsley will hope to end a 13-game winless run of midweek league games against Birmingham, who are currently 15th in the Championship.
“Birmingham have a lot of experience, they have many key players,” said Struber. “We also have a very strong team.
“In every game it's clear, when we create good moments and make a performance out of our comfort zone, we go on our limit together, then we have a good chance to win.
“I think we can very quickly start a run of victories. I hope my players believe similarly to me and we can start a good run. It's very close.
“I trust my boys. It's our duty to show our fans a good mood of fighting.”
Sami Radlinger remains sidelined with an injury he picked up on Wednesday.
Marcel Ritzmaier is also injured, but Struber said he could return to training by the end of next week.
Brad Collins, who stepped in for the Austrian 'keeper on Saturday having just returned from injury himself, said: “It's getting to the time of the season where we need wins, everyone knows that.
“It's important we build now and try to get a few wins under our belt.
“Under the lights at Oakwell we can beat anyone, especially with the fans behind us.
“It's going to be a very big game for us that can hopefully kick-start us on to something special.”
The match at Oakwell will kick off at 7.45pm.
