VISITORS to Barnsley might spot an unusual structure in the Market Gate car park this weekend.

Architects of Air’s Luminarium has touched down in the town and gives people the chance to walk through and experience the inflatable sculpture in all its colourful glory.

Inspired by Islamic architecture and geometric shapes in nature, it comes to Barnsley after a successful stop in Budapest.

About 20 minutes is enough time to wander through the structure and explore its four domes and central tree.

Exhibition manager Jon Gatt said: “The reaction from visitors is the same the world over - if you sit by the entrance and listen, all you hear is ‘wow’.”

Barnsley Council arts and events officer Kevin Wallace said: “We were looking for high profile, high impact events for Barnsley town centre as part of the long term vision and aspirations for a vibrant, forward-looking Barnsley.”

Some advance tickets have now sold out, but there are still available for people who turn up.

The Luminarium is open today from 10.30-6pm, tomorrow 12-6pm and Sunday 10-6pm. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and kids under two are free.
