A COMMUNITY group has benefited from a surprise donation allowing it to spruce up the local area with hundreds of plants.

Big Local Thurnscoe had planned on planting floral displays around the village, until volunteer activities had to be suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But the group received a lift from local garden centre First Impressions, who supplied the plants free-of-charge.

“We were really disappointed that the lockdown interrupted our volunteer activity to prepare all of the plants in Thurnscoe for their usual spectacular display,” said Big Local Thurnscoe development worker Alison Vint.

“When Paul called to offer to supply the plants it was a huge boost to our spirits as it is quite a task to locate that many plants at the moment.

“We are very grateful to Paul and his team at the nursery for donating so many plants and to Twiggs for helping us with the collection and delivery and planting out.

“All plants have now been sited in our half-moon and 3-tier displays and also at the war memorial in Thurnscoe Park.

“We are sure that residents will appreciate the display, especially this year.”

The plants have gone into more than 20 hanging baskets in the village, with support from Twiggs Ground Maintenance.
