SWIMMERS at a private swimming school caused a splash by taking part in a sponsored swim to raise money for Sport Relief.

Every class from babies to pensioners at the Deborah Yule Swimming School on Station Road, Barnsley, took part, swimming a total 114 miles.

Swimming instructor Sally Philburn said: "The youngest swimmer was about 14 weeks old, and the oldest were in their 60s.

"There's been a lovely community spirit - we've been overwhelmed by the number of people who have wanted to do it - we had two and three-year-olds who raised £100 each and an elderly man who couldn't swim before Christmas who raised £85."

A raffle was also held after a number of local businesses donated prizes.

About £2,000 was raised for Sport Relief and £240 was donated to Barnsley Youth Choir which which is travelling to Latvia to take part in The World Choir Games.
