THE TERRITORIAL Army put students through their paces at the Dearne ALC.

Student ambassadors from across Barnsley were invited to take part in the special event, which saw the local Army Reserve unit 4 Yorks visit the school.

Devised by the Army Reserve and the Made In Barnsley initiative, it was designed to help year nine pupils learn skills and techniques to build on their future careers.

All 60 students who took part were Made In Barnsley ambassadors, and worked as teams throughout Monday’s event to build on skills such as teamwork, interaction and communication.

Tasks included a casualty evacuation exercise titled Saving Private Ryan, confidence and co-operation exercise Minefield, survival exercise Thrive To Survive and written and verbal communication tasks.

They also had the chance to have a go at paintballing and tackle an assault course.
