AT only 15 years of age Billy Wilson-French has already made quite a name for himself in the world of ice skating.

Having only being skating for just over five years, the youngster already has six British titles, 27 golds, three silvers and two bronze medals under his belt.

He most recently competed in the IJS Sheffield 2018, which was held at the end of July, where he bagged himself first place in the Advanced Novice Men's category.

Billy first tried ice skating when he went to a party at Ice Sheffield and has been doing ever since.

He covers a lot of aspects of ice skating from dance to free skating, both solo, with a partner and in a group.

Last December Billy was chosen to take part in Disney on Ice and was the first non-permanent cast member to take part in the performance.

He managed to wow the judges in the audition process and was thrilled to be chosen to take part in the show.

Billy has just recently returned from a trip to Canton in Michigan where he and his dance partner trained with top Olympic coaches.

Marina Zoueva is one of the trainers who has been spending time with Billy and she and her team have trained some of the best Olympic ice skaters.

As the trip was so expensive Billy and his family had to raise £6,000 which covered his accommodation, travel and coaching costs.

Billy is dedicated to his training and gets up at 4am on weekdays to train before school and trains for about 20 hours over six days a week and has very little time for a social life.

Billy, who lives in the Royston area, said: “I wasn’t expecting to be nominated for a Proud of Barnsley especially just after receiving the Barnsley’s Young Sports champion award. I’m really happy about it, it sounds great.”
