SEVEN taxi drivers in Barnsley have had their licences revoked due to ‘safeguarding concerns’, the Chronicle has learned.

The hackney and private hire drivers were taken off the road because of concerns linked to inappropriate conduct.

The withdrawals were revealed at a council meeting by senior licensing officer Kate Liddall after Coun Gill Carr asked about a rise in reported concerns since the publication of the Casey and Jay reports into child sexual exploitation.

Ms Liddall said: “It’s interesting to note that since the outcome of those reports, we have found that we have new concerns arising, such as about a child or a taxi driver, and appropriate action has been taken in all cases.”
