TWO teachers from Barnsley have been nominated for a teaching award.

Moira Newman and Harshad Patel, who both live in Barnsley, have been nominated for the PK Education South Yorkshire supply teacher of the year award.

Now in their third year, the awards recognise and reward supply teachers from across the region who are outstanding in their profession.

Describing why Moira has been nominated for the award, Lee Carpenter, director of PK Education, said: “Moira is a well experienced and versatile teacher.

“She never turns down a challenge. Most recently Moira has worked in a pupil referral unit visiting the most challenging and disengaged pupils (sometimes at their homes) and has received tremendous feedback.”

Lee also commented on fellow nominee Harshad Patel: “Harshad has an infectious enthusiasm and eagerness to help and change people’s lives for the better and inspires others to follow his example.

“He is both experienced and versatile, providing general cover, as well as teaching science and maths across colleges, secondary and primary schools.”
