TEENAGER Matthew Freeman’s best friend lost his dad to lower colon cancer.

Then a little over a year ago Matthew’s own dad John was diagnosed with the same condition.

It was then that Matthew, 17, of Wood Walk, Wombwell, decided to raise awareness and cash to fight the condition.

He applied to take part in the Great North Run with the intention of gaining sponsorship for a cancer charity but his application was not successful.

Undeterred he decide to carry on training for his own 10k sponsored run.
