A Royston teenager will represent South Yorkshire in a televised modeling competition.

Ashlie Chambers, 18, has been selected to represent the county in the Model Search UK final in April.

Ashlie, of Church Street, beat off competition from 5,000 other models and describes representing South Yorkshire in the competition as a 'massive dream come true.'

She said: "It really is such an honour to be chosen, especially when you think about the number of girls that go for it."

Ashlie has been involved in modelling since she was about seven but says she only really took an interest as she got older.

She is also due to take part in the Miss Yorkshire beauty pageant in October.

"I couldn't have got to where I am now though without my mum, I can't thank her enough."

The teen, who also models for charity Escape For Life Girls, has been sponsored by local businesswoman Sally Wilkinson, who owns Sally's Glitz and Glamour store in Barnsley Market.

It is Sally who does Ashlie's hair and make-up on the day of the competition.

Ashlie said: "I'm really happy that Sally has sponsored me and has offered to do my hair and make-up.

"She knows what these competitions are all about, it's a glitz and glamour world."

The competition, held in Cheshire, will be televised on ITV, BBC and Sky later this year.
