TEENAGERS have spent a week of their summer holidays trying to brighten the days of elderly people at a Barnsley care home.

The group of 15 teenagers, all taking part in the four-week National Citizen Service programme, have been at Water Royd House, Gilroyd.

Their main project is to tidy up the grounds outside and create a sensory garden for the residents.

But they’ve spent the rest of the time organising a variety of events for residents and simply keeping them company.

“We’re all really enjoying it,” said Josh Johnson, 15, of Rowan Close, Goldthorpe, who has just left Dearne ALC.
