Barnsley threw away the lead twice as they fell to a 4-2 loss to Fulham at Oakwell.

Barnsley led twice in the game thanks to Marley Watkins and Sam Winnall but strikes from Lucas Piazon, Sone Aluko, Scott Malone and Chris Martin handed the points to the visitors.

Josh Scowen saw red in the second half to add to a miserable afternoon.

Conor Hourihane was missing from the Reds' line-up after picking up an injury whilst 18-year-old Jared Bird made the bench after playing 45 minutes for the under 23 team yesterday.

Barnsley-born Marc Roberts was given the captain's armband in Hourihane's absence.

Barnsley were ahead inside of four minutes when Sam Morsy played the ball over the top for Watkins. The Welshman had plenty of time to think about his finish and decidedly slotted it beyond former Reds' loanee David Button.

Fulham responded with Piazon's corner just missing a final touch as it flashed across goal and Cole Kpekawa having to make successive clearances from dangerous attacks.

The visitors levelled on 37 minutes when Piazon's strike from just inside the box flew into the top corner via a deflection off Roberts.

A mad minute or so before the break saw Barnsley go back ahead and then back level again.

Morsy added another assist by playing in Winnall whose shot went in via the post but the Reds were caught napping from the kick off with Aluko afforded an easy chance to make it 2-2.

Moments into the second half, Fulham took the lead with full-back Malone spotting Adam Davies off his line and angling a shot from the left wing into the net.

Another raid down the left resulted in a fourth with target man Martin heading in from Malone's centre on 65 minutes.

Things got worse moments later with Scowen sent off for fouling Fulham's Scott Parker after a foul had been awarded in his favour.

Fulham controlled the flow of the game with the extra man and Aluko came close to making it five with a drilled effort following a smart passing move.

Strikers Adam Armstrong and Tom Bradshaw were brought on for the final 20 minutes but failed to make an impact as Fulham saw out the game.
