Barnsley survived their goalkeeper being sent off to secure a 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient in the 1,000th game of Danny Wilson's managerial career.

Conor Hourihane and Devante Cole ended their mini goal droughts to make it 2-0 at half-time but the hosts went down to ten men on 75 minutes after Ross Turnbull handled the ball well outside his box.

But Barnsley held on for their first league win in more than a month which moved them seven points clear of the relegation zone and six behind the top six in 14th place.

Wilson made one change to the side that won 3-0 at Chester in the FA Cup replay on Tuesday night. Lewin Nyatanga returned from a groin injury to replace Reece Brown at left-back.

Kane Hemmings volleyed wide with a good early chance from a Dale Jennings cross. But Hemmings made amends on 13 minutes when he split the Orient defence with a pass that put Hourihane clean through to round the goalkeeper and tap into the empty net. It was his 11th of the season and first in six games.

After 25 scrappy minutes, Orient gifted Barnsley another goal. Jennings intercepted a poor pass from Scott Cuthbert and ran down the left wing before squaring to Cole who slid the ball under the goalkeeper from 14 yards out. It was Manchester City loanee's first in seven matches and seventh of the campaign.

The visiting fans booed their team off at half-time but were more encouraged after the break as Shaun Batt flicked a header just wide and Dean Cox forced Ross Turnbull into his first save with a good, low 30-yarder.

Barnsley continued to create opportunities and a brilliant Jennings cross picked out Luke Berry inside the six yard box but the volley was repelled at point blank range by goalkeeper Adam Legzdins.

The Reds were reduced to ten men on 75 minutes when Turnbull raced out of goal to beat Batt to a throughball but accidentally handled it and was sent off. Substitute goalkeeper Adam Davies came on for Cole.
