EX-PUSSYCAT Doll and Britain’s Got Talent finalists will dance into the town centre this month as part of the ten day dance festival extravaganza, Dancing Town.

As revealed in the Chronicle last week Dancing Town is a legacy event of the hugely successful BBC Two documentary, Our Dancing Town, that was broadcast in January 2017.

The festival will take place over ten days from August 10 to 19, with the highlights being workshops featuring Kimberly Wyatt and Flawless on a pop-up dance floor in Mandela Gardens, behind The Civic.

Former Pussycat Doll Kimberly, who is also a judge on Sky1 dance show, Got to Dance and children’s dance show CBBC: Taking the Next Step, will be holding two workshops, called Kimberly Wyatt: Bring Your Heels on Thursday August 16.

Tickets are on sale via Eventbrite. The 36-year-old American said: “I’m so excited to be coming to Barnsley to meet local dance schools and everyone else who wants to take part in my workshops.

“The festival sounds great, I’m thrilled to be taking part and I can’t wait to meet everyone.”

Britain’s Got Talent 2009 finalists, Flawless, will also deliver four workshops on Monday August 13 and Tuesday August 14 with tickets also going on sale tomorrow via Eventbrite at 10am. A performance, featuring the street dance troupe, will take place on August 14 at 7pm and will also include youngsters from local dance schools and those that have taken part in the workshops at the festival.

Choreographer of the television show, Our Dancing Town, Steve Elias, is also set to return for a special guest appearance as part of the festival on Tuesday August 14.

Steve, who admitted he wasn’t sure his idea of getting people to dance through the streets in a town like Barnsley would work, said: “I can’t wait to return to Barnsley and get everyone moving.

“Our Dancing Town was a brilliant documentary that we were all proud of and the reaction to the show from the town was fantastic. There’s going to be loads to see and get involved with and I really can’t wait to get involved too.”

Other themed events confirmed as part of the festival include a night of Northern Soul, a country day with live music, food, drinks and entertainment, an 80s’ night and a family day featuring princesses and superheroes from the movies.

Qualified fitness instructors will also hold ticketed classes for zumba and yoga.

A finale for the dance festival, which will features dancers from local dance schools and family entertainment, will take place on Sunday August 19 between midday and 5pm.
