Thespians in Penistone hope their 2014 pantomime performance of Dick Whittington will be plain sailing after saving hundreds of pounds on props.
About 120 metres of white material will be used to create the sails of the ship in the Penistone Theatre Group production.
It should have cost almost £400 but Chris Walker, who will play the Dame, managed to pick it up free from a work colleague who had stored it in his garage for five years.
Behind-the-scenes stars Yvonne Gaines and Michelle Cleary now have the job of preparing the fabric for the first performance - on Thursday, January 30 - as well as sewing all the costumes.
Rebecca Barnett, from the theatre group, said she was looking forward to the pantomime, which will run until Saturday, February 8.
"I just like the fact that it's a traditional pantomime and the involvement with people watching," she said.
"Rehearsals started in October and we've got a really good choir of 30 children."
Sian Fowler will play Dick, with Michael Beard as King Rat and Michael Cutts as the Captain.
