A BRAZEN thief broke into the coffee shop at Barnsley Hospital and stole the collection tin containing money raised by volunteers.

Staff were left devastated after the money they had collected for the hospital’s charity was taken early on June 20.

It is thought the thief forced their way into the closed cafe, which is based in the hospital main outpatients department, damaging the shutter.

The thief also tried to break in to the till but was unable to open it.

The coffee shop is run by volunteers who give their time to provide the service to patients, staff and the public. It remained closed on June 20 as hospital security management and South Yorkshire Police investigated the scene.
