The 2019 Barnsley Town Centre races will take place on July 19.

Barnsley Road Club have organised the event for the last two years, with the 2018 being part of the men’s National Circuit Series and National Women’s Road Series.

They featured some of the best riders in the country such as national champion Tom Pidcock. The event, which sees competitors race around the closed streets of the town centre, is growing in popularity and this will be its third year.

Event organiser Chris Lawrence said: “The 2019 Barnsley Town Centre Races will play host to the televised British Cycling National Circuit Series rounds for men and women.

“It follows the success of last year and comes on the back of Geraint Thomas winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday. There will also be the Barnsley Community Ride, youth racing for under 12 to 16s and an adults regional circuit race.

“In 2018, Barnsley hosted 350 entrants and 2,000 spectators in the heart of the town during the summer, broadcast on Eurosport. This year’s event will again attract big crowds, street vendors, and opportunities for business to advertise within the circuit.

“Last year, viewing figures reached 350,000 individual viewers and video of Tom Pidcock’s ‘wheelie’ when he crossed the line went viral. The community ride will again be a free-to-enter event aimed at younger riders, from six years old, who we hope can ride on a marshalled closed-road circuit and gain a sense of the atmosphere of a national level cycling event.”
