A TEACHER is seeking help in trying to turn back time.

Alex Simon is desperate to unearth a time capsule which was buried 50 years ago at Silkstone primary school.

The problem is, there is no clue as to just where in the school grounds the capsule was placed.

So Alex is hoping a former pupil or member of staff might remember the ceremony and pinpoint the capsule’s location.

The search has been triggered by events to mark the school’s transition from secondary to primary in 1968. At a special 50th anniversary reunion, some visitors who had been pupils there asked about the capsule and whether the school had any information about it.

“At that time, records were very well kept, but for some reason there is no reference to just where the capsule was buried,” said Alex. “I can’t see it anywhere in the school diary.

“A number of visitors at the reunion remembered the capsule being buried but couldn’t recall just where.

“Several staff and pupils would have been involved so someone must know where it is.”

Alex wants to dig up the capsule and see what’s inside. “It would be fascinating,” he said. “It’s been there 50 years now and the contents should be so interesting. Especially as we are studying the school’s history as part of the 50th anniversary.”
