Shaw Lane Aquaforce have moved five points and two places closer to the top of the Northern Counties East League this week by winning 11-0 at Maltby on Saturday then beating leaders Tadcaster Albion 1-0 on Tuesday.

After a feisty midweek meeting which saw one Tadcaster player red carded and two sent off for the Ducks, the Barnsley side are second – seven points behind the leaders with three games in hand.

Striker and assistant manager Lee Morris got the winner against Albion after scoring five at Maltby. The Ducks have scored more goals and conceded fewer than anyone else in the division.

The Tadcaster match nearly did not go ahead because of the state of the Shaw Lane pitch but it passed a late inspection. Aquaforce had the better chances and played the better football throughout as they completed the double over Albion. Morris fired across the face of goal from a tight angle inside the box while the Ducks missed the target from the edge of the area on several occasions.

After a quiet first hour without a shot on target, there was a goal and two red cards within eight minutes. Tom Claisse – who played for Shaw Lane last season – was sent off for pushing his hand into Joe Thornton's face. Five minutes later, Sam Denton headed a looping cross from the left towards Morris who smashed home from two yards out.

Within minutes it was ten against ten after home midfielder Steve Istead was shown a second yellow. But, apart from one 20-yard shot which sailed just over, Tadcaster failed to create any chances. The Ducks goal was not threatened even when they had nine men after Gary Stohrer was dismissed in the first of five added minutes for bringing down an Albion player who would have been clean through.

It was a more one-sided affair at Maltby on Saturday. Morris got five, Thornton hit a hat-trick and the other scorers were former Nottingham Forest man Matt Thornhill, Stefan Holt and Shane Kelsey.

The weekend's result meant the Ducks had registered a remarkable 83 goals from 20 games at the halfway point in the season. It was the second time Aquaforce have reached double figures in three league games following a 12-0 success at Glasshoughton in November. As well as going for the league title, the Shaw Laners are in the fourth round of both the FA Vase – which has a Wembley final – and the League Cup.
