PENISTONE Grammar School paid tribute to its former pupil and Premier League-winning footballer John Stones this week.

To celebrate Manchester City’s Premier League win, images of the club’s players have been projected onto buildings in their home towns all over the world, and former Barnsley FC defender Stones’s image lit up the side of Penistone Grammar School on Sunday.

Stones made his name at Barnsley before signing for Everton and later Manchester City.

Paul Crook, Penistone Grammar School principal, said: “It was a real privilege to be asked by Manchester City FC if we could be part of such a prestigious and celebratory event.

“We are really proud to say that John was a member of our school community, he is a great role model for students and we wish him all the best in this year’s World Cup in Russia.”
