Daniel Stendel wants Dale Tonge to remain part of his first team staff for next season.

The Goldthorpe man, who turned 34 earlier this month, was promoted from under 16s coach in January following Andreas Winkler’s move to Huddersfield Town. He helped them secure second place along with fellow coach Christopher Stern.

Tonge – who also won promotion as a player with Barnsley in 2006 – was initially appointed until the end of the season. Stendel told the Chronicle: “I think he will stay on our staff.  We have had so much success together. I have a good relationship with Tongie and Christopher so I think we will keep it the same.”

After promotion was secured, Tonge told the Chronicle: “I would obviously love to stay involved with the first team. I would relish the opportunity.  I was given an unbelievable opportunity by the gaffer. He has shown a lot of faith in me and hopefully he’s seen that I have helped in the way he thought I could help.”
