A top banker spent a hands-on day working at a Barnsley training firm.

Mark Winters, NatWest managing director for business banking in the North worked with one of the bank’s customers, Mandy Aston and her team at Astra Access, the Darton- based health and safety training firm.

The day was part of NatWest’s working with you scheme with everyone taking two or three days out each year to work for a customer.

Mark spent the day experiencing a variety of aspects of the day-to-day running of the business from the office to the training floor.

He tried his hand at erecting scaffolding and driving a cherry picker proving he has a healthy head for heights.

Mandy, said: “It’s unusual for your banker to come and work alongside you but I welcomed the extra pair of hands and Mark threw himself into it. I think it’s a great initiative as I was able to explain the sorts of things we have to consider that maybe they’re not aware of.

“It also gave me the opportunity to speak to Mark about some of the things I’ve found frustrating about working with the bank and hopefully he will now be able to use that feedback to make things easier in the future.”

Mark said: “I had a brilliant day with Mandy and her team, it was fascinating to see the hard work and effort that goes in to keeping the highest standards of such an important business.

“We are making more and more of these visits and I would like to thank Mandy and everybody else at Astra for having us for the day.”
