A BARNSLEY dog has landed a job as a four-legged ambassador testing out canine-friendly cottages.
Penny, a Bernese mountain dog from Monk Bretton, beat over 50,000 dogs from across the UK to secure her role as the ‘Yorkshire canine critic’ through Canine Cottages.
Canine Cottages is a company dedicated to providing dog-friendly vacations across England, Scotland and Wales and feature more than 2,300 pet-friendly places to stay where dogs are welcome.
Each year, they recruit hounds from ten UK regions to join the team as ‘canine critics’.
Penny’s role will involve testing out and reviewing a cottage in Yorkshire, access to local dog-friendly days out and a selection of free products from brands to review.
Penny will also appear on the Canine Cottages website and on the company’s social media channels.
Her owners, Danielle Andrews, 27, and Chris Copley, 35, applied for Penny to take part on a whim and they were very surprised when she was chosen to represent Yorkshire.
Danielle said: “Penny is a happy-go-lucky dog who loves exploring and we couldn’t believe it when she won.
“She is always happy to throw herself into anything and she very quickly becomes your best friend. She is very special to us and we can’t wait to explore with her. She also loves being in front of camera, we think she was born to model.
“We are humbled and amazed that she has been chosen to represent Yorkshire. It’s nice to know that other people see her how we see her and through this opportunity we hope to encourage more people to go away with their dog and explore what Yorkshire and beyond has to offer.
“Poppy turns one on Sunday so it makes this opportunity even more special and we look forward to spending time with her away.”
