A BARNSLEY man has spearheaded a project to return a historic South Yorkshire stately home’s garden to its original Edwardian state.
Dan Hale, head gardener at Brodsworth Hall in Doncaster, has led a team who have been restoring a previously lost area of its gardens to their former splendour.
Using historic plans and photographs, the team stripped back the turf to reveal the intricate paving and planting beds.
Brodsworth Hall is famous for its Victorian style but the site also contains areas of Edwardian planting and design, demonstrating the evolution in tastes and fashions at the turn of the last century.
Dan, who was born in Cudworth and now lives at Wilthorpe, said: “Putting this part of the garden back to its original design has been hugely exciting and to see the final product has been so rewarding.
“It is with thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers who have worked so hard to help us complete this exciting project. Now, like the rest of the grounds, this part of the garden will provide something different for our visitors to experience.”
