Barnsley's top-scorer Kieffer Moore will miss the rest of this season due to the head injury he picked up at Gillingham last month.

The striker, who has scored 18 goals for the Reds, was knocked unconscious in Kent and the club have been advised by doctors that he should not play until at least the summer.

Assistant coach Dale Tonge said: "We have been given medical advice from top professionals and we have to take it because his health is more important that anything. He’s massively disappointed but he’s still a leader in the dressing room and he’s around the club still.

“He will be fit and fine come the summer. Initially we didn’t think he would be out for the season but it’s not until you do the screenings and testing that the full extent comes out.

"It may give other teams a boost but we have enough players in the squad to score the goals that Kieffer has scored and new leaders will step up from within the squad."
