TORRENTIAL rain caused flash flooding across Barnsley, and caused one road to split.

The Met Office had issued a yellow warning across Yorkshire on Wednesday due to the heavy rain.

More than half a dozen roads across the borough flooded due to the downpour, forcing motorists to divert or slowly drive through, causing traffic delays.

Part of Wakefield Road split due to water forcing itself up through the tarmac.

Pontefract Road, Stairfoot Roundabout, Pogmoor Road, Carlton Hill, Grange Lane, Smithies Lane, Windsor Street, Thurnscoe and Hoyle Mill Road were also affected by the rain, with drains lifting up through the force of the water.

The A633 Lower Valley Roundabout faced disruption after a tree had fallen onto the road, causing traffic to be diverted by police.
