PARTS of the town centre will be closed to the public for up to six months as work on the Glassworks site enters its final phases.

Kendray Street will be closed from next week until spring next year to allow for the construction of a public square.

Parking and loading bays on Eldon Street will be repurposed to create a wider walkway near The Civic.

Works to widen the footpath will take place from Tuesday, and once it is completed Kendray Street will be closed to both pedestrians and vehicles.

The two taxi rank spaces located at the top of Kendray Street will not be in use during the closure.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council said: “These works are essential to the progress of the Glassworks scheme and will facilitate the build of the long-awaited public realm.”
