Jose Morais has responded to stories of a training ground bust-up at Oakwell which allegedly left goalkeeper Nick Townsend with a broken finger.

Townsend was left out of the squad for the Good Friday 2-2 draw with Bristol City, due to an injury which is understood to have been sustained in an altercation with another player in training.

Head coach Jose Morais refused to comment specifically on the incident but told the Chronicle: "He is injured. He broke a finger.

"Normally incidents happen in training grounds. A training ground, like a game, is a place of emotions. That is the reason why football is so fantastic.

"With emotions, things can happen - a tackle, a fight. The way we have to grow as a group is to understand how we can use our aggression in certain moments. These players are young players and they have a coach that understands things in order to make them grow."

Another injury doubt is striker Kieffer Moore who scored the opening goal and set up the second but limped off late on. Morais said he expected him to play on Monday.

The head coach said: "He felt some cramps and he had to leave the pitch. I didn't want to take him off but I had to. We have a game on Monday and I believe he will recover.

"Kieffer is a strong player, a fantastic player in terms of commitment, mentality, enthusiasm. We want to add other qualities which take a little bit more time. He is working on his finishing, But he is a player with a lot of will and he will improve very very very fast and he knows where he wants to go."

Moore was brought down when through on goal by Bristol City captain Bailey Wright who only received a yellow card. Morais said: "My opinion is that it is the situation where a referee should show a red card. If it was me, I would give him a red but it's not my decision to make."

Morais was disappointed that his team did not win a game in which they were the better side. He said: "I have the feeling that we deserved much more than what we got but I need to be grateful and happy for what we got because it was what was possible in the game.

"In a short time we showed the quality of teams who are playing for the play-offs. We deserved to win, but we have to get those points somewhere else.

"When you score two goals you are usually very close to winning so we are not happy with the two goals we conceded. I feel happy because the team showed the quality which is expected in the Championship. I believe we have the quality to say in this league and we showed that .

"We are getting better and better. This was a very consistent performance with a lot of knowledge and I am happy for that because this is what we are building. We had a little bit more time in the last ten days and things are happening because of that.

"The time is not in our favour but we know where we want to go. The boys have quality and I believe in them. I really, really, really think that we will stay in this league."
