TRAVELLERS who were camped on Carlton industrial estate for more than three weeks have left.

The council was given authority at Barnsley Magistrates' Court to move the travellers and their vehicles from Shawfield Road.

Jamie Impey, a council solicitor, said the travellers had dumped rubbish and spat at and abused officials.

"The travellers tend to wait until we have been to court and move under their own steam," he said.

Mr Impey added that the travellers had been issued with a summons to attend court but no one had turned up.

The Chronicle was told the travellers had moved on last week and the area was being cleared by the council.
