THE brother of a teenager who was killed in a tragic car crash just yards from the school she had left last summer has paid tribute to his ‘fun-loving’ sister.

Macey-Jay Frudd, 16, died after the car in which she was a passenger collided with a tree in the early hours of Sunday morning on Broadway, coming to rest within sight of her former school, Horizon Community College.

The aspiring beauty therapist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other people who had been in the car, two male and one female, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. An 18-year-old male was bailed, while a 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old female have been released under investigation.

Macey’s brother Morgan Frudd, 20, of Rose Hill Drive, Dodworth, told the Chronicle: “Macey was always dancing around.

“She was very mischievous but she had a heart of gold and as a family we are shocked by this tragedy. We have no words to describe how we are all feeling.

“She had recently finished school at Horizon and she was at Barnsley College studying beauty and she hoped to become qualified and start her own beauty business.

“We were really close and we always looked out for each other and I had her back. She was hugely popular and she will be hugely missed by me, our dad Jason and mum Tamantha.”

Soon after Macey’s death, tributes began pouring in on social media and a tree close to where she died has been filled with flowers, photographs and candles.

Macey’s friend Caitlin Scales said: “She was an amazing girl. She loved dancing and going out with her mates. We were best friends for over four years.

“We used to see each other every day and if we didn’t meet up we’d be on the phone planning what we would be doing over the weekend.

“Me, Macey and our other friend Tilly were the best of friends, we did everything together.

“Watching her get taken away from me was horrible and I’ll have to live with it forever.

“She was beautiful and everyone loved her - and, as her mum would say very naughty. I miss and love her so much.”

Another friend Tilly Moxon added: “I have grown up with Macey and we have never had one bad term with each other throughout our life of being so close.

“She has never failed to put a smile on my face or anyone else’s.

“No one could ever replace her and our friendship even if they tried to. Rest in paradise my angel.”

On Sunday a balloon release will take place in memory of Macey. Friends and family will be meeting at the Fleets site at Barnsley Sports College and walking across to the field at 1pm.

A post online about the balloon release by Morgan has been shared more than 700 times.

Morgan said: “To see how many people have commented and shared the post just shows how loved and adored my sister was.

“I want this to be the best send off ever for my beautiful sister who was a top lass.

“Me and my family love and appreciate the amazing support we are getting.”

Claire Huddart, principal of Horizon Community College, said: “This is a very tragic event that has affected the whole college community as Macey only left us a few months ago.

“Macey was a popular student and particularly enjoyed the opportunity to work in Horizon nursery.

“We have been in touch with the family to express our condolences and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Macey.”

A police spokesman said: “At 1.40am on Sunday morning, a silver Vauxhall Astra was travelling along Broadway in the direction of Dodworth Road when it collided with a tree.

“A 16-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Astra, suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her family are being supported by our officers.

“Officers are particularly interested in speaking to people who might have seen a vehicle fitting this description in the area prior to the collision.

“If you saw anything, please contact 101, quoting incident number 94 of January 13.”
