TRIBUTES have been paid to a ‘much liked’ former Wombwell student who has died aged 17.

Michael Gill’s Facebook page has been turned into a memorial site since his death.

Tributes posted to Michael, who died on May 1 in the Wakefield area, have made reference to mental health issues and bullying.

The teenager had been in the care of the local authority.

Michael had attended Netherwood ALC in Wombwell between year seven and the start of year 11.

Principal Toby Eastaugh said: “Michael was a looked-after child who actually left Netherwood to be educated in Wakefield early on in year 11. We have heard what happened through some students at school but he did not have many friends outside of the peers in his own year group, who have now since left.

“All our sympathies are with Michael’s family and we are terribly sorry to hear what has happened.”
