A ‘HAPPY-GO-LUCKY’ and ‘bubbly’ young woman had cocaine and alcohol in her system when she died in a car accident.

Lorna Humble, 29, of Lang Avenue, Lundwood, died after the Citroen C1 she was driving collided with a concrete mixer truck and a silver Vauxhall Vectra on Industry Road, Barnsley, on April 9 last year.

An inquest held at Sheffield Medico-Legal Centre last week found that Lorna was more than double the drink drive limit when the crash happened.

Her family described her as a ‘wonderful person’ who was ‘helpful to anyone at any age’ but she was ‘vulnerable’ and she had ‘had a difficult weekend’ before she died on the Monday.

Lorna had been a dinner lady at Wilthorpe Primary School for about three years and had also been at student at Barnsley College.

She was a single mum and her family said she was proud to have passed her driving test as it gave her independence and enabled her to go out with her daughter more often.

The inquest heard evidence from the concrete mixer truck driver and Vauxhall Vectra driver, who both said the Citroen C1 came around the roundabout at speed and seemed to lose control.

Lorna died at the scene from fatal head injuries and a passenger in the car was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A statement read out by assistant coroner Tanyka Rawden on behalf of Lorna’s mum, Colleen Humble read: “Ever since (the accident happened) nothing has been the same. Sometimes it feels like she is still here. She was one of my best friends and I have lost a massive chunk of my life.”

However, her family said Lorna could be ‘unpredictable’ and ‘vulnerable’ and ‘easily misled’, which they believed could have led her to drinking.

Ms Rawden gave her condolences to Lorna’s family and concluded that Lorna died of head injuries in the crash.
