A FUNDRAISING trio raised £2,000 for Barnsley Hospital’s Tiny Hearts Appeal by driving 1,650 miles in an aged Fiat Punto all the way to Benidorm.

Father and son duo Dave and Nick Booth were joined by their friend Michael Kennedy for the journey to Spain.

The lads were in one of about 30 cars that travelled south as part of the TJ’s Rally Elite event and stopped at several locations along the way.

Dave, of Green Road, Penistone, said: “We bought a cheap Fiat Punto for the drive to Spain, and painted it up especially for the event, but we decided to then scrap the car while we were in Benidorm.

“We decided to raise money for the Tiny Hearts Appeal because the special care baby unit, at Barnsley Hospital, cared for my grandson, Thomas, for five weeks when he was born in 2012 and we just wanted to say a big thank you for all their hard work.”

The cash raised by the trio will go towards providing an even better standard of care for all the special care babies and the most comfortable environment for all families and staff on the unit.
