THIS little fella has ruffled a few feathers in Barnsley’s twitcher community.

The beautiful firecrest - the UK’s smallest bird species - has been spotted in woodland at Silkstone over the last couple of weeks and hobby photographer Sean Savage has managed to capture these wonderful pictures showing it in all its striking glory.

Sean, 48, said it has caught the eye of bird lovers - and snappers - from across the borough because it is rarely seen in the north.

Firecrests are usually only seen in the south of England, passing over the east coast when they arrive from Europe in autumn, spending winter in the West Country and southern Wales.
