There is no doubting what Ike Ugbo wants to achieve at Oakwell this season.

The young Chelsea forward signed on a season-long loan deal earlier this week and swiftly made his first appearance in a Barnsley shirt in the Tuesday night victory over Coventry City at Oakwell.

"I want to get some goals and hopefully aim for promotion this season," said the 18-year-old who has been prolific throughout his time in the Chelsea academy.

"I was happy to do my bit for the team and get the win.

"It was good for me to find my feet ahead of the start of the season.

"We started training two weeks ago at Chelsea so I was ready to play.

"Hopefully when the goals come I will be one of the fans' favourites."

The signing of Ugbo is seen as a real coup for The Reds with a number of other Championship clubs, including Leeds United having been interested in him.

He wants to get his first goal soon after seeing fellow strikers Stefan Payne and Tom Bradshaw score midweek.

He added: "It's a good confidence booster going into the season. They got goals and are finding their feet. Obviously I want to get some goals to help the team.

"I want to start the season with a couple of goals and find my place in the team."

Ugbo also played for England's Under 20s as they won the Toulon tournament over the summer.
