FOOTBALL matches for a junior club have been cancelled indefinitely after a vandal in a 4x4 churned up its pitch.

So much damage was caused to the pitch at Oakwood Road in Royston that the under 11s and under 12s' team of Staincross Rangers junior football club will not be able to play again until council staff can repair the damage.

But that will not happen until weather conditions allow, and volunteers accept that that could be some time.

Club chairman Paul Batley said: "It's bad enough that we have to patrol the pitch picking up dog dirt every week before every game because of inconsiderate dog owners."
