THE restored Victorian conservatory at Wentworth Castle is to get a Royal visit.

Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester - who is the Queen's cousin - will tour the Grade II* listed glasshouse on November 4, coinciding with the first anniversary of its £3.74m restoration.

The Duke will plant a traditional raffia palm in the Africa flowerbed, as well as tour the garden pavilion, known as the Gun Room because of its use in Victorian times.

The room - originally built in 1732 - is a future renovation project for the castle and Stainborough Park Heritage Trust, the registered charity which manages the 500-acre parkland.

The Grade 2* listed glasshouse reopened last November after falling into disrepair during the 20th century. It had been placed on English Heritage's 'risk register' but after a 10-year fundraising campaign, restoration work began in 2012.
