PART of Hoylandswaine's heritage could disappear if plans to replace the old village shop with a new home are given the go-ahead by Barnsley Council.

The shop, which is in the Hoylandswaine conservation area, close to the Rose and Crown pub in Haigh Lane, has not been open since the 1990s and the building has fallen into disrepair.

John Crosby approached Barnsley Council to seek permission to demolish the building.

The building dates back to 1850 and was created as a farmhouse, which was later extended but, over the years, changes to the structure had meant that none of the original interior remained, with fireplaces, ceilings, beams and floors all replaced.

Under Mr Crosby's plans, the building would be replaced with a new four-bedroomed home which would occupy a similar 'footprint' on the site.
